Rick Dustin, Director of the Lower Octave Choir, holds a master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Maine at Orono and a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music from the University of Michigan. Mr. Dustin has directed high school choirs and bands for over 20 years.
Since 1997, he has directed the choral and the instrumental music programs at Yarmouth High School. The music program at Yarmouth has consistently placed students in District and All-State Music Festivals and in All-Eastern Ensembles.
Mr. Dustin has been honored to have served as guest conductor for MMEA Honors Festival Choirs and has also performed a number of times as piano accompanist for Maine’s All-State Chorus Festival. In 2015 he was named the Maine American Choral Directors Association Russell-Cox Distinguished Choral Director. He is active in the Maine Music Educators Association and ACDA, helping to host festivals and manage honors ensembles.
Jesse Wakeman, Director of the Concert Choir, is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. His collegiate studies have given him experience in all forms of music, from opera to jazz, and have also fostered his love for composition. For the past several years, he has joyfully served as the choir director for the North Yarmouth Congregational Church and has maintained a small private voice studio catering to young singers who are passionate about the vocal art.
Jesse is an active performer, lending his talents to a variety of concert work and operatic roles, both at USM and with various professional organizations and events, including PORTopera, St. Mary’s Schola and the White Mountain Arts’ Annual Bach Festival. His efforts have won him several awards and honors such as the 100th Annual Lillian Nordica Memorial Scholarship and the Bay Chamber Concerts Young Stars Prize for Vocal Excellence. Jesse is excited to be able to use his experiences as a performer and educator to inspire and guide the young musicians of the Boy Singers of Maine.
Jenna Guiggey, Director of the Lyric Choir, is a recent graduate of the music education program at the University of Southern Maine School of Music. While at USM, she concentrated on studies in classical voice and was an active member of Opera Workshop, University Chorale, Concert Band, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the USM Chamber Singers. Her strong interest in the study of vocal technique has led her to continue her studies at USM, where she is working toward a Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy and works as a Graduate Assistant for several undergraduate classes in the School of Music. In addition to a love of choral music, Jenna enjoys solo performance and was a featured soloist with the USM Chorale’s performance of Handel’s Messiah. She hopes to inspire a new generation of young singers in her work with the Lyric Choir of the Boy Singers of Maine.
